There wasn’t much Jim Shank couldn’t do in the swimming pool. Holder of seven school records, Shank was a six-time All-American, and is the former career point leader with 1,055.75 in four seasons. Together with Hall of Famer Barry Zacharias, the two were a formidable duo, nabbing numerous honors. Shank captured six Upper New York State (UNYS) and Empire Athletic Association (EAA) titles during his career. He was also a major factor in RIT finishing in the top six at the state meet each of his years. Shank also helped the Tigers to their only EAA titles in 1983 and 1984. Shank is one of only three swimmers to score more than 400 points in a single season. He collected an armload of All-American awards. Twice he placed third in the 400-yard individual medley. He also boasts a third and fourth in the 200-freestyle, third in the 500-freestyle, and ninth in the 400-individual medley, all coming at the NCAA championships.
