New York State Supreme Court Justice David D. Egan had a stellar career as a wrestler, assistant coach, soccer player, and outstanding alumnus. In between he spent time in the military. A standout wrestler at Spencerport High School, Egan came to the Institute in 1957. He received his bachelor's degree from the College of Business in 1962. As a freshman, he compiled a 10-1 wrestling record while the freshman team posted an undefeated season. That year he was a semifinalist at the prestigious Wilkes Tournament and placed third in the West Point Tournament. In 1960-61, when he returned to RIT from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, he grappled to a 4-5-1 record. Along the way he was the champion and outstanding wrestler of the Jewish Center of Buffalo Tournament. The following year he lived up to his team captaincy as he was 10-3 and received the Outstanding Wrestler of the Year award. He was a silver medalist at the prestigious Niagara District AAU Olympic Freestyle Tournament and a quarterfinalist at the Wilkes Tournament. In soccer, Egan played one season and was a starter as RIT played its second varsity campaign.
