For Gary J. "Kraut" Dotzler, wrestling was a new experience. When he donned the RIT gear, it was his first exposure to the grappling game. In four years of competition, Dotzler went from an initial 2-5 campaign to a 10-0 record his senior year. He won the Individual Invitational Interstate Intercollegiate (Four "I") Tournament in 1954 and was runner-up the following year. In three years of varsity competition, Dotzler scored 112 points, was a member of the undefeated 1953-54 team, and wrestled to a 10-0 record the following campaign. After graduation and service with the Army, he returned to RIT where he was assistant wrestling coach from 1959-61.
