Few have accomplished more in swimming than Victor, NY native Erik Zelbacher. The three-time All-American was RIT Senior Athlete of the Year, Upper New York State Swimming Coaches Association (UNYSSCA) Swimmer of the Meet and Empire 8 Athlete of the Year.
At the 2005-06 NCAA Championships, he posted a time of :20.21 in the 50-yard freestyle, which was the fastest time in Division III. He also had the second fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (:44.82) and second fastest in the 100-yard butterfly (:48.69). His times were also UNYSCSA and Empire 8 records.
The RIT team captain also won the UNYSCSA Douglas McDevitt Award for academic excellence. He was also consistently on the RIT Dean’s List.
The five-time RIT Athlete of the Week was a three-time Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet. He currently ranks among the top 10 in Division III history for the 100-yard butterfly.
Zelbacher is the school record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.
Zelbacher now lives in Pittsford, NY.
