David Thering is one of the best lacrosse players in RIT history. The attackman from Fairport, NY holds the school record with 293 points and was a two-time All-American. He was a four-time Empire 8 All-League selection, garnering Rookie of the Year honors in 2003 and Player of the Year plaudits in 2006.

During his career RIT was 45-22, won two ECAC Championships and advanced to the 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament. He was also Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 2006.

A packaging science major, Thering graduated with honors, posting a 3.94 GPA. He was named a USILA Scholar All-American in 2006, and was also a CoSIDA Academic All-American. He was named Team Offensive MVP all four years and was a starter in the annual North-South Senior All-Star Game.

In 2006 he was drafted 75th overall by the Rochester Knighthawks.

Over four seasons, Thering played in 67 games with 147 goals, 146 assists, 293 points, six game-winning goals, 23 man-up goals and 254 ground balls.

Married to RIT alumnae Brenna Lortie, Thering is a third grade special education teacher at East Rochester (NY) Elementary School. He also coaches lacrosse at Pittsford High School.
