Danielle (Simmons) Cox was one of the finest runners in RIT track and field and cross country history. In 2005, Cox, a native of Brewerton, NY, became RIT’s first indoor track and field All-American, placing fourth in the 800-meters at the NCAA Division III Championships. That same year she was named USTFCCA Atlantic Region and ECAC Upstate Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. At the indoor New York State Championships and Empire 8 Championships in 2005, Cox garnered Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet honors. She held six indoor school records, including the 400-meter dash (:58.17), 500-meter dash (1:16.01), 800-meter dash (2:13.70) and the 4 x 200-meter, 4 x 400-meter and distance medley relays. Her outdoor records included the 800-meter dash (2:12.24) and 4 x 400-meter and 4 x 800-meter relays. In her final season, Cox led RIT to the 2007 Indoor NYSCTC Indoor Championship and 2007 Indoor Empire 8 Championship.
