Dan Hickey came to RIT as an assistant coach to Sports Hall of Famer Doug May. For the next 15 years, the duo crafted a soccer dynasty among NCAA Division III schools. Himself a former teammate of May’s at SUNY Brockport, Hickey was All-State and All-SUNYAC. He is a native of Port Washington, NY. During that fantastic RIT run from 1980 to 1995, the Tigers competed in four NCAA semifinals and reached the championship game against University of California at San Diego in 1988. In that span, RIT appeared in 11 NCAA championships. The team overall record was 195-56-24. The Tigers won ECAC playoff titles in 1991 and 1995 and seven straight conference regular season crowns. Individually, nine players were All-American, 47 earned All-New York State honors and 106 nabbed All-Empire Athletic Association recognition. RIT also had a 38-game conference unbeaten streak. Now retired and living in Spencerport, Dan was a health educator at Gates-Chili High School. He and his wife Sue have two sons (Gavin and Ryan).
