After a successful career at Gates-Chili High School in Rochester and a season at Monroe Community College, Christine (Jung) Ponzi joined the RIT women's soccer team and proceeded to pile up the accolades. In three campaigns she compiled 71 points, coming on 30 goals and 11 assists to become the all-time leading scorer, a record that still stands. In her second year, she was named Empire Athletic Association Player of the Year. She played a key role at RIT and was runner-up in the 1990 New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) playoffs, earning MVP and All-Tournament honors. An accounting major at RIT, Ponzi participated from 1988 to 1990. She was twice named first team All-Independent College Athletic Conference (later known as the Empire Athletic Association) in 1989 and 1990, along with her Player of the Year award. Twice she was named All-NYSWCAA (1989 and 1990) plus MVP honors in 1990 playoffs, despite the team finishing runner-up. In 1988 she led the team in scoring with 12 points. The following year she excelled, tallying 36 points. She was the third-leading scorer with 23 points in 1990. Ponzi played at a time when RIT women's soccer was continually improving. The team attained varsity status in 1982. During her tenure, RIT compiled a 26-25-2 overall record. The best won-lost record came her senior year with a 15-5-1 mark and the state runner-up title.
