A native of Rochester, NY, Ann Nealon started women’s tennis at RIT in 1971. Under her leadership, the program has enjoyed outstanding success, compiling a won-lost record of 228-114-3 before her reitrement in 2005. She also coached the men’s team for nine seasons, compiling an 86-31 record and leading the team to the Empire 8 Championship in her final season in 2005. During one stretch between 1980 and 1983, RIT won an astonishing 30 consecutive dual matches, with undefeated seasons in 1982 and 1983. Nealon led her team to a New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) championship in 1983 (tied with Binghamton) and two Empire Athletic Association titles in 1984 and 1986. Several of her players have fared well in the state championships. In dual matches, the doubles duo of Kelly Collins and Patty Durbak went undefeated in 30 matches, never losing a set. Lynda Gorsky holds the school record with 55 career singles victories. Matthew and former tennis and hockey player Trish Corcoran were previously inducted into the Hall of Fame. Among Nealon’s achievements, she has served on the selection committee for several Sportswomen of the Year awards. In 1984 she was recipient of the Rochester Press-Radio Club Jean Giambrone Award.
