RIT Drug and Alcohol Policy Information
2009-10 RIT Drug and Alcohol Policy Information
Founded in 2006, the RIT Drug and Alcohol Policy was designed to prepare our student-athletes for a mandatory NCAA drug testing program and also better prepare them for competing at the highest level. The random drug testing has been a positive instrument in curtailing drug and alcohol use within collegiate athletics. This will help manage our primary goal, which is to secure the RIT student-athlete's health and welfare.
In the Fall of 2006, the RIT athletic department began a random drug testing program among all 24 Intercollegiate athletics teams. The testing program was conducted by the National Center for Drug Free Sport and the RIT Sports Medicine staff. The following substances will be tested:
- Amphetamine/Methamphetamine/Ecstasy
- Cocaine Metabolite
- Marijuana Meatbolite
- Ephedrine
- Alcohol
The testing during the 2006-07 season was very successful, as alcohol-related incidents involving RIT student-athletes decreased by over 60 percent. On the field, the RIT athletics program enjoyed its finest year ever, as every team sport (that was eligible) made the postseason, while several individual athletes competed in various NCAA Championships.
The Center for Drug Free Sport is best means for attaining all information on NCAA drug testing and banned substances. If you have any further questions, please contact either:
