ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman pitcher/third baseman
Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) of the RIT softball team, was named the Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the week ending May 2, 2010. It is Kemp's first weekly honor.
Kemp tossed consecutive one-hitters against Nazareth and Stevens as RIT clinched the final spot in the conference tournament. She threw a five-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts in an 8-0 victory over the Golden Flyers. On Saturday, Kemp struck out 18 batters in 8 2/3 innings, including seven consecutive in relief in the first game against the Ducks. She came within one out of her first no-hitter, tied her career-high with 11 strikeouts, and hit a grand slam in an 8-0 Tigers' victory in the second game.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, as they play top-seed Alfred in the double-elimination Empire 8 Championship at Alfred State College. That contest begins at 12 p.m.
