ROCHESTER, NY -
Sophomore Michael Dempsey of the men's track and field squad earned national runner-up honors in the pole vault  at 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. on Friday.

Dempsey recorded a leap of 5.02 meters, tying is own school record last week at the ECAC Championships.  Jake Winder of North Central College won the event with a leap of 5.12 meters.  Dempsey became RIT's 10th indoor All-American and first in the pole vault.

"Mike did exactly what we planned, which was to be consistent and get his height in by the second jump," said RIT Assistant Coach Ethan Senecal.  "We knew if he did that he would do extremely well."
