Softball standout Cole earns 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Region honor

ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore pitcher/utility Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden), a member of the RIT softball team, earned 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District I Region honors on Thursday.  Selections are made based on a combination of academic and athletic excellence.  Cole, a photography major, was a third team all-district selection with a 3.30 grade-point average.

Cole enjoyed a tremendous season on the mound and at the plate for RIT in 2009.  Cole finished 13-11 on the mound with a 1.77 earned run average in 170.1 innings.  At the plate, she led the Tigers with 27 runs batted in, while hitting five home runs and batting .323.  In 12 Empire 8 contests, Cole hit .455 with nine RBI to earn second team honors.  Cole is second all-time at RIT with nine career home runs. 

On May 1, Cole had one of the best pitching performances in the history of the RIT softball program, throwing 16 scoreless innings to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 win over Ithaca in the Empire 8 Tournament.  Cole allowed just one hit in the final 12 innings and threw 164 pitches.

The Tigers finished the 2009 season with a 19-18 record.
