ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman middle hitter Laura Mooney (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) of the RIT volleyball team was named the Empire 8 Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending October 5, 2008.

Mooney recorded 40 kills and 20 blocks in a 3-2 week for RIT.  She recorded 10 kills and five blocks in the Tigers' win over Ithaca and also registered five blocks in a victory over Brockport.  She ls third on the team with 147 kills and second with 69 blocks.

RIT is back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to SUNY Geneseo to play the Knights in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
