RIT Sports Hall of Fame introduces five new members

ROCHESTER, NY - Amie (Banis) Olson ’01 (basketball), Don Robbins ’91 (soccer), Andy Schild ’02 (baseball), Lou Spiotti, Director for the Center of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, and Melissa (Norris) Wilkins ’99 (hockey), were the 41st class to be inducted into the RIT Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the RITz Sports Zone.

Tosh and Culotta earn 2009 ABCA honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) and Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) were honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association, as the group selected its 2009 All-New York Region award winners on Tuesday.  Tosh was a second team selection, while Culotta was a gold glove winners.

Nine Tiger baseball standouts earn 2009 All-Empire 8 postseason honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Nine members of the RIT baseball team earned All-Empire 8 postseason honors, as the league announced its 2009 award winners on Tuesday.  Senior Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) and junior Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) were named to the first team.  Sophomores Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) (Livonia, NY/Livonia), Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and freshman Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) (Meckenlburg, NY/Trumansburg) were named to the second team.  In addition, four players earned honorable mention accolades.

Dornes garners Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week honor

ROCHESTER, NY - Junior pitcher/outfielder Geoff Dornes (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) of the RIT baseball team was named the Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the week ending May 10, 2009.  It is Dornes' second weekly honor of the season and seventh of his career.  He is the two-time Empire 8 Player of the Year.
